Mission Statement and Values
Soul Matters is a professional counselling service founded in community and committed to wholeness, authenticity, and healing with inclusive rates for all those in need.
Our Values
-
Faith, Hope and Grace
Faith, hope and grace are the foundation for why we do what we do here at Soul Matters. Faith enables us to extend grace and gives us hope. From this posture, we provide quality, clinical counselling to help and serve others.
-
Community
Community is the foundation of everything we do: serving clients, teaching students, and inspiring supervisors. Our space is oriented towards fostering deep connections and inclusive community that includes being a ‘no-barrier’ space for people with physical limitations. It is designed to inspire a sense of community and ‘home’.
-
Education
We value our profession and want to inspire those learning it. As such we offer internships to students in their Master’s program from various universities in the Lower Mainland.
-
Authenticity
We support the diversity of all who join our community and highly honour and value authenticity as defined by Brené Brown: “Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re suppose to be and embracing who we are.”
We enthusiastically accept our supervisors, students, and clients for who they are and how they show up. Living and engaging authentically means seeking to know ourselves and being honest in our communication.
-
Wholeness, Health and Healing
At Soul Matters we provide a path to wholeness for each of our clients by structuring our office space intentionally to engage with clients beyond the counselling appointment. They may spend time enjoying a tea, conversing with the team, perusing our library, or sitting in our chapel. We see our clients for more than the problem they present in the counselling room. In this way we build relationships and enable our clients to be seen, heard and known.
-
Professionalism
We believe that ethical conduct is of the utmost importance for everyone serving clients. We adhere to the Standards of Practice for Counsellors and the Code of Ethics from the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. At Soul Matters, it is important to us to enable students to become competent counsellors and to be able to deal with every issue presented in counselling. Our success is measured by the success of our students both in their ethicality and proficiency.
