Karen Caspian, Intern Clinician

I am a Master’s-level student therapist pursuing a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Trinity Western University. My approach is built on fostering trust and connection with my clients.  My training is primarily in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). In individual therapy, EFT can help clients explore and experience their feelings within the safety of our relationship together. In therapy for romantic partnerships and families, EFT can help partners and parents to build stronger bonds and learn to better support one another with their feelings. My approach is also informed by Accelerated Experimental- Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), promoting transformation through deep emotional experiences and by interacting with a client’s internal world. When words are hard to find, I can also use Sandtray therapy, which allows clients to express themselves non-verbally by arranging figures in a sandbox. My practice is trauma-informed – I offer my clients lots of safety, choice, and predictability. I do this because these things are often missing for people who have faced trauma.
